兇悍的百獸之王獅子亞利克斯，在這裏卻成了紐約中央公園中的娛樂名人，吸引了來自各地的遊客在這裏觀賞遊玩。不過，他在這裏的生活卻也豐富多彩，至少和幾位好友的相處是其每天最興奮的事情。斑馬馬蒂、長頸鹿麥爾曼以及胖河馬格洛麗亞都是些性格開朗，能說會鬧的好夥伴。

這幾個傢伙在這裏過着好吃好喝，幸福自在的生活，對非洲故鄉的懷念早已變成盤中的'美食被消化殆盡了。因爲，在這裏，有整日充斥着耳闊的歡呼崇拜聲，有吃不盡的美食佳餚，有舒適現代的生活環境，甚至在斑馬馬蒂過生日時，能吃上香甜的奶油蛋糕。

但有一天，馬蒂的想法被幾個偶然間出現在中央公園裏的流浪企鵝所深深地改變了。馬蒂的好奇心也在逐漸地膨脹中驅使着自己最終作出了尋找故鄉、以及進行探險“新世界”的決定。“隆重”的生日過後，幾個好朋友正在各自享受着這美好的生活帶給他們的一切。然 而，好友馬蒂卻在這個幸福的夜晚之後不翼的消失了。亞利克斯他們盡最大的努力欲尋回好友，然而，他們逃出中央公園的遭遇卻不令人滿意，第一次的失敗過後，第二次的偉大嘗試很快就到來了，而這一次，他們更是來到了開往遙遠的非洲家園的輪船上。此時，四位好友 再度團聚。但他們發現，他們腳下已經不再是繁華的紐約城了，而是遙遠的馬達加斯加島。
