沃爾特·惠特曼(英語：Walt Whitman，1819年5月31日-1892年3月26日)，美國詩人、散文家、新聞工作者及人文主義者。他身處於超驗主義與現實主義間的變革時期，著作兼併了二者的文風。惠特曼是美國文壇中最偉大的詩人之一，有自由詩之父的美譽[1]。他的文作在當時實具爭議性，尤其是他的著名詩集《草葉集》，曾因其對性的大膽描述而被歸爲淫穢。

I believe a leaf of grass is no less than the journey-work of the stars,

And the pismire is equally perfect,

And a grain of sand,

And the egg of the wren,

And the tree-toad is a chef-d’oeuvre of the highest,

And the running blackberry would adorn the parlors of heaven,

And the narrowing hinge in my hand puts scorn all machinery,

And the cow crunching with depress’d head surpasses any statue,

And a mouse is miracle enough to stagger sextillions infidels.
